By the end of this training, you will:
Understand the program lifecycle and the core elements of an effective program structure
Create an equity- and community-centered program vision that aligns with your mission and values
Design a program’s purpose statement and goals that connect to a theory of change
Use logic models to craft measurable program objectives
Develop a program plan that incorporates project management practices such as phases, milestones, deliverables, timelines, and delegation

By the end of this training, you will:
Understand the role of data, research, and evaluation across the program lifecycle and why integrating evaluation early and throughout is critical
Identify values-aligned approaches to evaluation and research that center equity, justice, and community voice
Explore the data lifecycle (collecting, analyzing, sharing, and acting) with a focus on community-centered approaches
Identify different data types (qualitative and quantitative) and research methods that support meaningful program insights
Develop an evaluation plan that includes objectives, research questions, and methods for collecting and using data

Understand how communications align with each phase of the program lifecycle and why starting early is critical to success
Identify the key elements of a communications strategy and plan
Design a communications strategy with a strong program narrative and target audiences
Explore how to communicate a program’s impact to stakeholders through community-based storytelling and documentation
Develop a communications plan that includes clear messages, methods, timelines, frequency, documentation, and delegation
You’ll explore how program design, data, and communications align across the program lifecycle, and how to ground your program in equity-and-community-centered approaches.

PROGRAM DESIGNS MANAGER
Emily is an educator, researcher, and program designer with over a decade of experience in teaching, project management, and data analysis. As the Programs Design Manager at Instituto, Emily has expanded the Monzón Fellowship, led direct service initiatives, and developed the guiding pedagogy for the organization’s training programs. A second-generation Mexican immigrant and former public school teacher, she is committed to designing programs that center equity and community power. Her approach blends vision with strategy, equipping communities to design high-impact programs that are both effective and transformative.

SENIOR DATA & SYSTEM COORDINATOR
With over a decade of experience as a community educator and organizer, Desiree brings a strategic and action-oriented lens in their approach to data.
Grounded through their fellowships with Instituto and re:power, and inspired by fellow Arizona-based data practitioners, Desiree is committed to making data accessible to everyone. Through this training, they are excited to help others deepen their inherent data skills.

SENIOR MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR
Thania is a communications and digital organizer with over a decade of experience in mass communications. She is a first-generation Mexican immigrant who believes storytelling is a key in building power and connections with the communities we serve. As Instituto’s marketing and communications coordinator, she leads outreach and recruitment campaigns for our programs. She has created campaigns that have brought in over 400 Monzón Fellowship applicants. Trained in communications strategy and storytelling, she is excited to teach the fundamentals of program communications, from strategy to implementation.

We encourage participants to explore professional development funding through their organizations, and our team is happy to support you in making that request or advocating for access to those resources.

To get the most out of this workshop, we encourage participants to come with a program in mind — either an existing one you’re working on or a brand-new idea you’d like to develop. Don’t worry if it’s not fully fleshed out — we’ll dream, plan, and build it together throughout the day. Having even a rough concept to focus on will make it easier to apply each activity as we move through designing your program, communications, and data plans.
