greatest strength of finance and development services

After several cycles working in Arizona, we know the local dynamics and have built relationships with many of the state’s largest funders. Experience aside, our philosophy and established best practices make our greatest strength our attention to detail and never missing opportunities.

We’re always looking for new opportunities to expand our network, build new relationships, and work with new people.

Describe your finance and development services.

We specialize in providing targeted donor prospects to clients with detailed information on their background, interests, motivations, and of course, contact information. Our background has encompassed virtually every aspect of political fundraising and has extensive experience in call time, events, and strategic fundraising program management.

Relationship with your clients

Accomplishing the job while ensuring a high attention to detail before giving advice or supplying deliverables is paramount. Listening and adjusting to feedback from the client is also essential to a positive relationship. We strive to please our clients and have had great track record of constructive client relationships.

metrics to measure your success

In fundraising the bottom line is the ultimate measurement, however, analyzing income versus goals beyond that allows the opportunity to find potential problem areas, new opportunities, and possible areas of improvement. Some of the metrics we use are the call time hourly rate (money raised per hour), average contribution, calls completed a week, call time hours completed a week.

greatest strength of finance and development services

Our greatest strength is our email fundraising program. It’s not a program that scales to many local races, but for those campaigns large enough to avail themselves, our email program has been quite successful.

Describe your finance and development services.

Our firm does not offer all the financial services campaigns need. We do not manage call time, we do not organize events, and we cannot provide you with finance staff. What we offer is acquisition and email programs that are unrivaled in the industry.

Relationship with your clients

Email fundraising at its best is a service campaigns and candidates don’t have to think about. We work with our clients to develop a program that will deliver results without draining campaign resources.

Our goals are list acquisition and contributions. To accomplish those two objectives we are constantly working on ways to grow, engage, and retain supporters -- particularly recurring donors.

Diversity

Diversity is absolutely one of the strengths of our firm. More than half of our current staff are either people of color or women, and that trend has holds going through all of our previous hires. We need to win over different types of voters who think, act, and look different from each other, and who consume data in different ways. While our commitment to shared progressive values and a desire to do good work for Democratic candidates unites us as a firm, our backgrounds, experiences, and personalities are unique to each member of our team.

Deep experience in planning and execution, as well as significant knowledge of major donors in AZ

Describe your finance and development services.

I have been at the helm of fundraising for many statewide races and ballot measures in Arizona, including being the chief fundraiser for former Governor Napolitano and the Arizona Democratic Party, and have also served as E.D. and Chairman of the State Party. Because of this work, I bring significant donor relationships and knowledge of what motivates individual givers. I have repeatedly built successful fundraising operations from the ground up. This includes call time, donor research, active finance committees, banquets of 2,000+ multi-tiered donors, intimate events with five- and six-figure donors, national fundraising, PAC fundraising, mass email fundraising, production of insider campaign status memos and other collateral, as well as compliance and systems for contribution tracking, deposits, and pledge follow-up.

Relationship with your clients

Three things are the most helpful to me in this regard: 1) Creating a strategic fundraising plan and calendar with the input and buy-in of the client, 2) Making sure there are clearly defined goals and expectations in that plan, and 3) Regular, timely reporting on progress toward those goals.

metrics to measure your success

The clearest measurement is net money raised, of course, but I work with clients to determine what the metrics should be. Some clients are looking to create long-term major donor relationships, while for others the goal may be generating a large number of individual donors, or a robust and regularly exercised email list. All of these are fairly easy to quantify. One less quantifiable metric that is especially important to ongoing campaigns is donor satisfaction: the sense that they are making an important difference and that their efforts are appreciated. These are all things that I pay close attention to.

At Javelina, diversity is a strength of our team and a quality we look for in our clients. Our team includes women and Latinos, specifically in key leadership roles, including our CEO, a Vice President, and two senior associates. Our client roster includes African American, Native American, Mexican American, and LGBT candidates as well as organizations led by and serving diverse communities. Javelina was also the lead consultant on Prop. 206, the successful statewide minimum wage increase that helped Arizona’s most economically vulnerable families.
